When I was younger, I was a painfully shy kid. I didn’t even order my own food at a restaurant until I was 13.
And then there was that time I was overweight from the time I was 10 until I turned 30 and all those years were marked by trying to be invisible 99% of the time.
Then I found blogging.
Healthy living blogging and the people I met through it, have literally changed the course of my life. When I was actively losing those 90lbs and then trying to figure out how to maintain it, I found so much more support and helpful information on personal blogs that I ever found in places like fitness magazines or diet books.
Here were real people, living real and very full lives, doing their best to eat, move and live in the healthiest way possible. And you know what my favorite part was? Everyone did it differently. There was no one way, one correct path, it was like a choose your own adventure.
Then there were the actual bloggers themselves. Writing day in and day out for the sheer passion of it. Some of the most giving and compassionate people I have ever met, are actually people I have never met!
That’s why I’ve turned my designing, developing and coaching efforts towards healthy living bloggers and wellness professionals. I adore working with people who are being the change they want to see in the world. It’s an amazing opportunity every. single. day.
Another opportunity I’ve been thinking about lately is speaking or at the very least, going to a conference to meet some of the people I’ve been blessed enough to work with and meet online. But then all the self-talk gremlins would start, that painfully shy girl would come back to visit and I could easily talk myself out of just about every opportunity that came up.
Until this one. When the invitation was extended to fly down to Anaheim and present at the BlogFest Conference my gut reaction was that this was the time to get over all that nonsense and just do it already!
So if you happen to be in the Anaheim area around the 14th of August this year, you’ll get to see some of my favorite bloggers and me doing our thing:
- Lindsay from The Lean Green Bean
- Cassey from Blogilates
- Gina from The Fitnessista
- Monica from Run Eat Repeat
If you’re on the fence about a conference because you’ve got some mental gremlins like I do, then keep in mind this conference is a bit different.
IdeaWorld has never had a conference for bloggers before and it’s super small as far as conferences go – only 150 people. You don’t have to worry about getting overwhelmed by 1000′s of faces, feeling isolated or not cool enough to be there. And if you don’t feel cool enough, you can totally hang out with me because trust me, ain’t nothing about me that’s cool either and we can dork it up together.
You can get the full run down on the BlogFest website.
Are you planning to come to IdeaWorld? I’d love to know who’s coming (or trying to come!)
